Does Your Laptop Want More Memory?

Laptop is a smaller version of computers which is increasingly replacing the desktop P.C. because of its mobility. However, there are a few shortcomings in it, the most prominent of them being low memory. Therefore, to know the technical know how of adding memory to a laptop becomes even much more important. Laptop because of its small size compromises on memory and mostly the laptops have 20 GB memory as a standard configuration.

But there are times when it becomes important to increase the memory for more storage and speed. In this case there are two options. You can go for a Flash memory which is U.S.B compatible and can be written on again and again. Its mobility makes it a better option. Secondly, you may opt for larger RAM which has to be installed in the laptop.

As using a flash memory is as easy as using a CD, lets talk about the process to install larger memory modules in the slots.

Mostly, the new RAM is to be inserted in the memory slot which is located at the base of the laptop, under the keyboard. But remember that you can add memory in only those laptops which have access to the memory panels. One should always refer to the Laptop's instruction manual for locating the area. The manuals many a times are illustrative hence it becomes easier to locate the concerned slots.

Before working on the process of installing a new memory, you should switch off the laptop and remove the power cords. Once you have located the memory panel, remove all the screws which bolt the panel. Keep the screws at a visible and safe place so that you may not lose them. Now, carefully remove the panel from the Laptop's base and keep it aside.

As you want to increase the memory, check out for any vacant slots if any. Simply insert the memory in the slot at an angle of 45 degree or if the slot is not vacant then take out the inserted memory module or the chip from the memory slot. This is a very delicate step. First, undo all the clamps which hold the module and then pull it out at a 45 degree angle.

Now the slot is empty and you can add the larger memory. Insert the new RAM at an angle of 45 degree. Then place the memory down and clamp it with the angular hooks .Get the panel and screw it back. This is the process of adding memory to a laptop. Once you are done with it, switch on your laptop and go to the Laptop's BIOS to make the new memory compatible.
